Trump: US-Iran Peace Deal Signed, Strait of Hormuz to Fully Reopen Friday

United States President Donald Trump has confirmed that a peace deal between the United States and Iran has been signed. He asserted that the Strait of Hormuz will be fully reopened this Friday (19/6).

Speaking in Evian-Les-Bains, France, alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, Trump stated, “The deal with Tehran has been signed.” However, he did not clarify whether Iran had also signed the document.

“The deal has been signed, and the Strait has been partially opened,” Trump added, confirming the waterway would be completely open by the weekend. “The waterway will be fully opened on Friday,” he said.

The US-Iran peace agreement was first announced by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday (15/6). Sharif said that Washington and Tehran had agreed to an “immediate and permanent” cessation of fighting on all fronts, including Lebanon.

Trump later confirmed the peace deal in a separate statement via his social media platform Truth Social. He announced that the Strait of Hormuz had been reopened and the US naval blockade lifted. “The deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all parties!” Trump said in his statement.

Trump also signalled the resumption of maritime traffic and energy shipments through the strategic waterway, declaring: “Ships of the world, start your engines. Let the oil flow!”

The conflict between Iran and the US erupted in late February, with US-Israeli strikes against Iran, which retaliated with attacks on Israel and US allies in the region.
