Trump: US-Iran Peace Deal Scheduled for Signing Today
Washington (ANTARA) - US President Donald Trump stated on Saturday that the signing of an agreement to end the conflict between the United States and Iran is scheduled to take place on Sunday (14/6).
“The deal is scheduled to be signed tomorrow,” Trump wrote via the Truth Social platform on Saturday (13/6).
Trump also stated that the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened shortly after the agreement is signed.
“In fact, they (Iran) no longer want nuclear weapons, and they will not have them, whether through purchase, development, or any other means of acquisition,” Trump said.
He added that the relationship between the two nations is now “far different and better” compared to the previous US administration.
Trump also mentioned that the United States “will step in and clear the nuclear dust” at a time deemed appropriate and when the situation has become completely calm.
According to Trump, the deal also does not include the transfer of US funds to Iran.
“Unlike the payments of hundreds of billions of dollars given to them during the (former US President Barack) Obama era, including 1.7 billion dollars in cash, no money will change hands,” Trump said.
Earlier on the same day, the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated that the signing ceremony for the agreement is scheduled to take place on Sunday.
“They (the Foreign Ministers of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia) welcomed the US-Iran negotiations, which have entered the final stage, with an electronic signing ceremony scheduled for tomorrow,” the ministry wrote via the X platform.
On Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran and Washington have never been closer to reaching a memorandum of understanding. Meanwhile, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that the final draft of the peace agreement has been agreed upon.
Araghchi also emphasised that Tehran remains adamant that the only acceptable way to handle Iran’s high-level enriched uranium stockpile is to process it within Iranian territory.
