Trump: US-Iran Dialogue Postponed Until Khamenei's Funeral

President Donald Trump said on Friday that Iran is very eager to make a deal with America, but that talks have been postponed during the official funeral proceedings for Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, which have begun in Iran. The statement was made by Trump while attending the 250th anniversary celebration of US independence at Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, known as America 250, whilst praising the superpower’s military record. ‘We have built the most formidable and dominant military on Earth, and emerged victorious in two world wars,’ he said, claiming that the Cold War had consigned America’s rivals to the history books. Commenting on recent tensions, Trump stated: ‘We conquered Venezuela in just one day and crippled Iran until they begged for peace. They are absolutely desperate for peace. We even graciously gave them a week to mourn.’ He also praised the milestone anniversary, arguing that ‘at 250 years old, America is the oldest republic on Earth. We are the freest nation on Earth. We have the most just and enduring constitution on Earth.’ ‘No one has ever given more to charity, ended more hunger, cured more disease, or done more to uplift humanity than the American people,’ he said. Trump also warned of what he described as a resurgent ideological threat at home. ‘There is now a resurgence of the communist threat in our country, including from newcomers to this nation who embrace ideas that are completely contrary to our way of life and our great success,’ he said. He added that communism is a deadly threat to American freedom, calling it a greater threat to the country than the First World War, the Second World War, Pearl Harbor, and even 9/11. ‘America will never be a communist country,’ Trump said. He then turned to domestic politics, stating, ‘We will only lose the midterm elections if we allow ourselves to lose.’ According to him, eliminating the filibuster rule and passing the ‘Save America Act’ would ensure the Republican Party does not lose an election for 100 years.
