Trump: US can redeploy troops to Iraq if necessary

Washington (ANTARA) - US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the US could redeploy troops to Iraq if required.

“We will be there to help if needed,” Trump stated during an event at the White House.

Earlier that same day, the Pentagon announced that US and coalition forces have officially concluded Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq, which was launched to combat the terrorist organisation ISIS.

The Pentagon stated that security responsibilities in the region will now rest with the Iraqi armed forces, while the US will continue to provide limited assistance, including military training and intelligence sharing.

Trump subsequently described the official withdrawal as “a good day for America.”

He also noted that the troop movement was conducted in an orderly manner and that US military equipment remains intact, contrasting the process with the withdrawal from Afghanistan during the administration of his predecessor, Joe Biden.
