Trump Ultimatum to Iran: Peace or 'Total Surrender'

US President Donald Trump has stated that Iran must choose between a negotiated agreement or ‘total surrender’, as he announced the cancellation of a planned military strike to allow space for diplomacy. Trump claimed that discussions were underway, but Iran has consistently denied any direct negotiations are taking place. ‘Iran has publicly said it is not negotiating. The truth is, we are discussing solutions to problems they have created over decades,’ Trump said. He also confirmed that a US military blockade remains in effect. ‘Nothing will enter Iran unless we allow it, and nothing will leave until there is a deal or total surrender.’

Contradicting Washington’s claims, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei insisted there are no direct talks with the US and no meetings are scheduled. He noted that the only ongoing discussions are with Oman regarding the management of the Strait of Hormuz. The strategic waterway, through which roughly a fifth of the world’s oil trade passes, remains a flashpoint, with reports of an unidentified projectile striking a cargo ship nearby.

Financial markets rallied on the initial news of a delayed military offensive, with oil prices dropping by around 7 percent and the Dow Jones index reaching a record high. However, analysts caution that the optimism may be premature. Michael Knights of the Washington Institute noted that Iran’s strategy is to sustain economic pain for the US and its allies. The broader regional conflict also shows no signs of abating, with Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem rejecting any possibility of direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, underscoring the persistent volatility in the Middle East.
