REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TEHERAN — The Iranian government has strongly rejected US President Donald Trump’s plan regarding the naval initiative dubbed “Project Freedom”. Tehran has warned that US involvement in managing the Strait of Hormuz would be considered a clear violation of the existing ceasefire framework.

Chairman of Iran’s Parliamentary Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, Ebrahim Azizi, issued a sharp warning to Washington. He stressed that US intervention in the evolving maritime arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz would undermine the ceasefire understanding.

Quoted from Al Mayadeen, Azizi emphasised that Iran would not accept external control over one of the world’s most strategic waterways. This was stated amid ongoing tensions following months of confrontations in the region.

Directly, Azizi dismissed Trump’s “Project Freedom” initiative. He stated that the management of the Strait of Hormuz and the broader Gulf region “will not be determined by Trump’s fanciful posts.” The statement reflects Tehran’s firm rejection of US efforts to position itself as a maritime traffic referee in the area.

Iran Dismisses US Narrative

The Iranian official also criticised the US narrative surrounding maritime security, which he described as a “blame game” scenario. According to him, such rhetoric reflects Washington’s attempt to shape a political frame around developments in the Strait of Hormuz. He further affirmed that Iran continues to assert its sovereignty over its territorial waters and strategic routes.

A harsher tone came from senior advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, Major General Mohsen Rezaei. He accused the US of engaging in piracy practices and warned Washington to prepare for a “graveyard” for its aircraft carriers and troops.
