Trump to Attend White House Media Gala on 24 July

The annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner has been rescheduled for 24 July, with US President Donald Trump set to attend, according to organisers on Tuesday. Trump has accepted the invitation, fulfilling a promise made approximately three months ago after the event was postponed due to a shooting incident.

“This dinner will not only be an opportunity to carry out our programme. It will be a statement that violence has no place in American life and that a free press will not be intimidated into silence,” wrote Weijorm Jiang, President of the White House Correspondents’ Association, in a letter to the organisation’s members.

Meanwhile, Trump posted on social media that the announcement regarding the annual media event was good news. “This announcement is very good because we must not allow crazy people to change our way of life or even our schedules,” Trump stated.

The individual identified as Cole Allen was accused of attempting to assassinate Trump. Allen was involved in a shootout with law enforcement officers during a period when key US government officials, including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, were also present at the dinner. An officer was shot at close range by Allen but survived thanks to a bulletproof vest, and no other injuries were reported.

“I do not know whether I will make the same somewhat bad statement or not, at least regarding certain individuals, but we will find out soon,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social on Tuesday. Trump is also scheduled to deliver a speech at the upcoming event.
