Washington (ANTARA) - President Donald Trump will again ask the US Supreme Court to review a decision rejecting his bid to revoke the principle of citizenship by birth, or jus soli.

According to Trump, signs and billboards have been installed near the Mexican border and in other parts of the country offering US citizenship by birth for USD 4,000 (around IDR 72.3 million) or more.

“American citizenship cannot be sold! In fact, it is a criminal act; and therefore, the Supreme Court’s ruling is wrong. I will be asking the United States Supreme Court to rehear this case, soon. This injustice will destroy America if they do not change their totally crazy ruling,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

On Tuesday (7/7), the US Supreme Court rejected Trump’s initiative to revoke the universal right to US citizenship for children born in the country. Trump subsequently called the Supreme Court’s decision a “victory” for China and urged Congress to revoke birthright citizenship.

After beginning his second term as president, Trump issued an executive order to revoke the universal right to citizenship for children born in the United States. According to Trump, the provision in the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution should only apply to those whose parents are permanent and legal residents of the country. The 14th Amendment states that all persons born or naturalised in the US and subject to the jurisdiction thereof are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside.
