Moscow (ANTARA) - US President Donald Trump is furious over the actions of several NATO allied countries that have limited US access to their military bases, according to a Financial Times report on Friday.

Trump demonstrated this anger during a meeting with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, the media outlet stated, citing officials and sources close to the meeting.

According to the Financial Times, Trump threatened to punish European countries that he considers have not provided adequate support for US military operations in Iran.

Trump’s anger towards France and Spain reportedly dominated the discussions with the NATO Secretary-General at the White House.

However, Trump did not specify what steps he would take against those countries.

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte is reported to have understood Trump’s disappointment with the defence alliance during their meeting on Wednesday (8/4).

After meeting Rutte, Trump, via the Truth Social platform on Thursday (9/4), expressed doubt that NATO would help the US if Washington requested it.

On 17 March, Trump stated that NATO had made a “very stupid mistake” by not supporting the US in its military operations against Iran.

The US President admitted he was not surprised that the majority of NATO countries did not want to participate in the war. He also described NATO as a “one-way” alliance.
