Trump Threatens to Strike Iran Severely, Determined to Win War
US President Donald Trump has threatened to strike Iran ‘very hard’ as fighting in the Middle East reignites following a brief suspension of attacks by both nations. As reported by AFP and Anadolu Agency on Saturday (1/8/2026), Trump also reaffirmed his determination to win the war against Iran, which commenced following joint US and Israeli attacks in late February.
“We only want to win. We are doing very well. We are trying to be as good as possible in such a situation. However, they are being destroyed,” Trump stated while leading a cabinet meeting at Camp David, the presidential retreat in Maryland, on Friday (3ly/31/7) local time. “It is very simple. Iran will not have nuclear weapons.”
“We will hit Iran very hard and, you know, at some point they will say, ‘We really cannot take it anymore’,” Trump asserted during the cabinet meeting. This latest threat comes as US media outlets report that Trump is considering massive strikes against Iran, potentially targeting Tehran’s energy infrastructure, which could occur as early as this weekend.
As the war has raged for over five months, the conflict shows no signs of ending, particularly following the resumption of mutual attacks. In his statement, Trump also dismissed reports suggesting that Iran remains in a strong position. “Iran’s condition is very bad. They are very dishonest. They are very dishonourable in this matter,” he said.
Leading US media, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing unnamed Washington officials, reported that Trump has ordered recent strikes aimed at persuading Iran to surrender, with these new operations potentially commencing as early as this weekend. Furthermore, CBS News reported that Washington and Tel Aviv are planning joint strikes against Tehran’s energy-related targets, likely including oil refineries and power plants.
Trump has repeatedly threatened to attack Iran’s vital infrastructure. Last week, the US President vowed to destroy bridges or power plants in Iran whenever ships in the Strait of Hormuz are attacked. According to CBS News, citing anonymous sources, Trump has not yet given the final green light for the operation; however, the US and Israel are reportedly continuing their coordination. If the planned strikes are executed, it would mark the first time Israel has attacked Iran since the initial ceasefire was established in April.
