Washington — U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday (3 March) threatened to sever all trade ties with Spain after the country refused to allow the U.S. military to use its bases to launch an attack on Iran, while expressing his dissatisfaction with Britain.

‘We will sever all trade ties with Spain. We do not want to deal with Spain any longer,’ Trump told reporters at the start of his remarks with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in the Oval Office.

‘For the record, I am also not pleased with Britain,’ said Trump. ‘The man we are facing now is not Winston Churchill.’

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer told Parliament on Monday (2 March) that Britain would not join the ‘offensive strike’ by the U.S.-Israel against Iran.

Merz told Trump in the Oval Office on Tuesday that Germany hopes the ongoing war between the U.S.-Israel coalition and Iran will end soon.

Merz is the foreign leader to meet Trump in person since the United States and Israel launched their massive military campaign against Iran on Saturday (28 February) early morning.
