Trump Threatens to Level Iran to the Ground
US President Donald Trump has once again issued a harsh threat against Iran, warning that Tehran could be ‘leveled’ if it does not immediately agree to a peace deal with the US. “For Iran, time is running out, and they should move immediately, FAST, or there will be nothing left of them,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. “TIME IS VERY CRITICAL!” he added, as reported by Al Arabiya on Monday (18/5/2026).
These statements emerge as the White House begins to reopen discussions regarding military options against Iran. According to an Axios report citing two US officials, Trump is scheduled to hold a meeting in the White House Situation Room with his national security team on Tuesday (19/5) local time. The meeting will discuss potential military action against Iran. According to the report, Trump actually desires a deal to end the war; however, Iran’s rejection of several US demands and Tehran’s refusal to provide major concessions regarding its nuclear programme have caused military options to gain momentum once again.
Trump and Netanyahu Discuss Iran
Axios also reported that Trump spoke via telephone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday (17/5). Quoting an Israeli official, the report stated that the two discussed the situation in Iran. Israel’s public broadcaster, Kan, reported that Trump and Netanyahu also discussed the possibility of new military action against Iran during the conversation.
Earlier on the same day, Netanyahu stated he was scheduled to speak with Trump. Netanyahu mentioned he would hear about Trump’s recent trip to China, but also signalled that Iran would be the primary topic of discussion between the two leaders. Meanwhile, Iranian state-linked media reported on Sunday (17/5) that the US failed to provide concrete concessions in its latest response to the agenda proposed by Iran for negotiations to end the war.
