US President Donald Trump has threatened to destroy Iran’s oil export centre on Kharg Island, oil wells, and power plants. The threat was issued if Iran does not immediately agree to a deal to end the war.

Quoted by AFP on Monday (30/3/2026), a day after sounding more conciliatory and suggesting a deal could be reached this week, Trump wrote on his Truth Social network that the US is engaged in “serious discussions” with a “more reasonable regime” in Tehran. However, he added a threatening warning.

“Major progress has been made but, if for any reason a deal is not reached immediately, which could happen, and if the Strait of Hormuz is not immediately ‘Opened for Business,’ we will end our pleasant ‘visit’ to Iran by blowing up and completely destroying all Power Plants, Oil Wells, and their Kharg Island (and possibly all desalination plants!), which we have deliberately not ‘touched’ so far,” Trump said.

On Sunday (29/3) evening, Trump told reporters on Air Force One that the US has achieved “regime change” in Iran through the war launched a month ago with Israel, citing the number of Iranian leaders killed. He described the new leadership as “far more reasonable.”

“We are dealing with people different from anyone we’ve dealt with before. This is a completely different group of people. So I would consider that regime change.”

When asked if a deal with Iran might be possible next week, Trump said: “I see a deal in Iran. It could be soon.”
