Trump Threatens to Bombard Iran Again Tonight

US President Donald Trump has threatened to attack and bombard Iran again on Wednesday evening (8/7/2026). The threat came shortly after Trump claimed that the temporary ceasefire agreement with Iran had ended.

“I will give a little warning: we will hit them (Iran) hard tonight,” Trump told journalists at the NATO Summit in Turkey on Wednesday, as quoted by Al Arabiya.

Trump accused Iranian officials of failing to honour the agreement negotiated between the two countries, and said he therefore intended to attack Iran again.

In earlier remarks to the media on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in Ankara, Trump stated that the memorandum of understanding serving as the initial ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran had ended. Although he did not explicitly say the US would return to full-scale war with Iran, Trump’s comments immediately caused global oil prices to surge.

Trump said the purpose of the US campaign against Iran was to ensure the country would never develop or possess nuclear weapons. In his view, that objective might have to be achieved without a deal.

“They will never build a nuclear weapon under our deal, but I don’t know whether we will have a deal. We may do it without a deal, because, you know, it’s easier, because these people, they lie and they cheat,” Trump said.

On Tuesday (7/7/2026), the US military launched air strikes on several areas of Iran. The attacks were carried out while Iran was still holding the funeral procession for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the strikes on Iran were a response to attacks on three merchant vessels by Iran as they were passing through the Strait of Hormuz. “The aggression shown by Iran is unprovoked, dangerous, and a clear violation of the ceasefire,” CENTCOM stated on its X account.
