Trump Threatens "Most Devastating Economic War"

Washington (ANTARA) - United States (US) President Donald Trump on Wednesday (19/8) announced what he called “the most devastating economic operation ever conducted against any country.”

“This will be an Economic War and Isolation on an unprecedented scale,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, accusing Iran of failing to seize the opportunity to reach an agreement.

“Their navy is already gone, their air force is destroyed, their military factories are now in ruins, their currency is worthless, and their country is on the brink,” he said.

“Today, I am also announcing that any country that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to provide assistance of any kind to Iran will face enormous Economic Consequences,” Trump added.

Calling the move “ECONOMIC D-DAY,” he urged allies to support the US in isolating and defeating the Iranian threat.

The US and Iran remain at odds over the Strait of Hormuz and the terms for ending the conflict, with the future of negotiations uncertain after the 60-day negotiation period established under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) expired on Monday (17/8).
