The United States military has announced that its forces struck targets belonging to the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) within Iranian territory on Tuesday (1/9) local time. US President Donald Trump has threatened even more devastating attacks should Tehran retaliate.

US Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees US military operations in the Middle East, announced on Wednesday (2/9/2026), as reported by Al Arabiya and Anadolu Agency, that US forces have completed the latest wave of attacks against Iranian military targets.

“US forces attacked Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (Iran) targets, including air defence locations, radar systems, maritime assets and facilities, mine-laying capabilities, and communication sites,” CENTCOM stated via a post on X on Wednesday.

“These attacks are in response to recent attempts by the IRGC against commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, and against US military personnel deployed to the region,” the CENTCOM statement added.

Reports from Iranian state television indicated that a series of explosions were heard around Qeshm Island and near the Strait of Hormuz. According to Tehran’s state media, more than five explosions were heard near Mesen village on Qeshm Island, while four other explosions were heard from the direction of the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump, in a statement via his Truth Social account, stated that US forces launched “large and devastating” attacks near the Strait of Hormuz. According to Trump, the US strikes were a response to what he described as “failed Iranian attempts” to lay sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz.

The US President also referenced Iranian missile attacks on bases in Jordan, stating that “everything was successfully intercepted.”

In his statement, Trump warned that any retaliatory action from Iran would trigger a much harsher response from the US.

“If that failed Iranian nation retaliates against these very justified attacks, they will be struck back with far greater and more devastating force,” Trump asserted.

He added that larger-scale attacks are “ready and waiting” and claimed such strikes would leave Iran “nearly destroyed.”

In a separate interview with Fox News, Trump reiterated his warning that Iran would be “attacked much harder” if it decided to retaliate against US strikes.

“If there is a third attack, they will truly be destroyed as a nation,” Trump threatened.
