Trump Sued Over Charging for Access to Truth Social Posts

Two American media groups are suing US President Donald Trump over his move to charge fees for early access to his Truth Social posts, which frequently affect market movements.

As reported by AFP on Wednesday (12/8/2026), the lawsuit was filed by The Intercept and the Freedom of the Press Foundation in New York, US. The suit states that Trump’s scheme is corrupt and unconstitutional.

Subscribers to the paid service are promised near-instant access to Trump’s messages on Truth Social, ahead of the general public by a crucial few seconds.

The US leader, who is also a billionaire, often uses the platform to announce major news, from developments related to the Iran conflict to trade tariffs — all announcements that can cause market values to plummet or surge instantly.

The lawsuit states that the fee for early access to this service can reach 100,000 US dollars per month.

“This scheme is deeply corrupt. The President stands to profit financially by providing ‘market-moving’ government information to parties willing and able to pay his private company,” the court document reads.

Trump Media and Technology Group — the company that operates the platform — has dismissed concerns about the product, named Truth API, which was first introduced in mid-July.
