US President Donald Trump has officially set a 50% import tariff on all goods from any country supplying military weapons to Iran, effective Wednesday (08/04/2026). This policy is implemented as a decisive step by the US in response to geopolitical dynamics in the Middle East.

Citing a report from CNBC International, President Donald Trump announced this via a post on the Truth Social platform. Trump emphasised that any country proven to supply weapons to Iran will immediately face the tariff on every and all goods sold to the United States at 50%, with no exceptions or leniencies whatsoever.

“A country that supplies military weapons to Iran will immediately be subject to tariffs on every and all goods sold to the United States at 50%, effective immediately. There will be no exceptions or exemptions in this policy,” he stated.

This tough measure comes as Trump stated that the United States will work closely with Iranian authorities. This follows the announcement of a ceasefire agreement last Tuesday and what Trump called a highly productive regime change process.

In a separate post on Truth Social, Trump revealed that there will be no more uranium enrichment and that many of the 15 points in the US peace proposal have been agreed upon. He also added that the United States and Iran will later discuss tariff issues and sanctions relief.

Previously, most of Trump’s “reciprocal” tariffs imposed last year were overturned by the Supreme Court in February. However, the White House has effectively rebuilt its tariff regime through the application of mechanisms in existing trade laws, such as investigations under Section 301.

Metals are a key feature in the current tariff regime, where the United States has imposed levies of 50% on products that are entirely or almost entirely made from steel, aluminium, or copper. Additionally, there are 25% tariffs on derivative products that are substantially made from those metals.

Meanwhile, starting from the end of July 2026, major pharmaceutical companies will face 100% tariffs on patented pharmaceutical products and materials. For smaller pharmaceutical companies, the new tariffs will only take effect at the end of September.
