Trump States US Faces "Major Decision" Regarding Iran
Washington – The United States is facing a “major decision that must be made” concerning Iran, according to President Donald Trump on Friday (27 February).
“There is a major decision we must make” regarding whether to attack Iran, and the choice “is not easy,” Trump stated at an event in Texas. Every agreement with Iran must meet Washington’s requirements, he added.
“They want to make a deal, but we must make a meaningful deal,” Trump said. “I prefer the peaceful way. However, they are very difficult people.”
Earlier the same Friday, Trump told the media that he was “not pleased” with the progress of US-Iran nuclear negotiations, but had not yet made a final decision concerning potential military operations against Iran.
“I actually do not want to use” US forces, “but sometimes you have to,” he added.
The Trump administration has escalated its military deployment to the Middle East, sending additional fighter squadrons and positioning two carrier strike groups in the region. The USS Gerald R. Ford arrived off the coast of Israel on Friday, joining the USS Abraham Lincoln, which has been operating in the Arabian Sea since late January.
Tehran warned that any attack would trigger retaliatory strikes against US military bases throughout the Middle East.
Additional technical talks between the US and Iran are scheduled to take place on Monday (2 March) in Vienna, Austria.
