US President Donald Trump has stated that the Strait of Hormuz will soon reopen. The area is planned to be under joint control between the United States and Iran, following progress in talks with Tehran.

US President Donald Trump mentioned that the strategic shipping route of the Strait of Hormuz will soon resume operations after being paralysed due to a conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.

Trump conveyed optimism regarding the opening of the route if the negotiation process continues to show positive developments.

“It will be opened soon. It will be jointly controlled. Me and the Ayatollah, whoever the Ayatollah is, whoever the next Ayatollah is,” Trump said, as quoted by CNN.

Trump also alluded to the dynamics of leadership in Iran, which he believes is changing as the conflict progresses, following initial attacks that he said weakened the country’s elite ranks.

Nevertheless, he claimed that the talks held over the weekend are leading towards easing tensions.

“We are dealing with some people whom I consider very reasonable, very solid. The people inside know who they are, they are highly respected, and perhaps one of them will be the right figure we are looking for,” Trump stated.

The conflict in the region previously halted shipping activities in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route that historically handles about 20% of global oil distribution. As a result, hundreds of ships are reported to still be stranded on both sides of the narrow waters.
