Trump Slams Iran as 'Dishonourable' After Leak of Nuclear Deal Details
A day after declaring a deal with Iran was nearly complete, US President Donald Trump slammed Tehran as dishonourable, citing what he called an inaccurate description of the proposal. “The details leaked by Iran to the fake news media have nothing to do with the details that have been agreed upon in writing,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “What they are saying, including their weak and pathetic statement about a deal, has nothing to do with the truth. Very dishonourable people to deal with. With them, there is no such thing as dealing in good faith.” Iranian state media had reported on Friday the broad outlines of the agreement, including that Iran would not commit to handing over management of the Strait of Hormuz and that the deal would require the release of $24 billion in frozen Iranian funds. In his message, Trump said Iran’s continued targeting of ships in the strait was “Totally unacceptable. They better fix their actions, and fast!” Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Thursday, Trump had said, “We just reached a big settlement on the war with Iran,” adding that documents were being prepared and could be signed soon. Trump suggested Europe could host a signing ceremony but did not specify a country or location.
