Trump Says US Open to Resuming Attacks on Iran
Tokyo (ANTARA) - President Donald Trump on Wednesday said the United States is open to resuming attacks on Iran if Tehran does not sufficiently comply with the terms of a recent preliminary peace agreement between the two sides. Trump, attending the G7 summit in France, stressed that the so-called memorandum between the US and Iran, which calls for a halt to fighting and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, is not final. “If I don’t like it, we will start shooting at them again, dropping bombs on their heads,” Trump told media at the start of his meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on the sidelines of the summit. “If they don’t behave well, we will go right back and drop bombs right in the middle of their heads,” he added. The United States and Iran have said the memorandum will extend a ceasefire for another 60 days to give both countries time to negotiate a final deal aimed at ending the nearly four-month war. The terms of the preliminary agreement also include lifting a naval blockade the United States has imposed since April on all maritime traffic attempting to enter or leave Iranian ports. However, neither country has yet disclosed specific details of the interim agreement, which is to be formalised in a ceremony in Switzerland on Friday.
