Trump Says US Does Not Need China's Help to Resolve Iran War

According to Al Jazeera on Thursday (14/5/2026), the war is expected to be a topic of discussion between Trump and Xi over the next two days. However, Trump downplayed Beijing’s potential role in ending the conflict, which has strangled traffic through a major waterway that normally carries about one-fifth of the world’s oil supply.

“I don’t think we need any help with Iran. We’ll win it one way or another, peacefully or otherwise,” he told reporters in Washington.

Meanwhile, the summit between Trump and Xi is not seen as an issue in Iran.

“On the contrary, people are saying this is a bilateral matter that will not affect the strong relations between Iran and China,” said Almigdad Alruhaid from Al Jazeera, reporting from Tehran.

“These relations are very strong, strategic, independent, and a long-term partnership. We know there is a 25-year agreement from 2020 on politics, economy, culture, and other things in this Middle East region.”

Earlier, Trump arrived in Beijing to attend a high-level conference (summit) with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The event was held with the aim of easing deep tensions between the two superpowers.

According to AFP, Trump arrived at Beijing Capital International Airport aboard Air Force One on Wednesday (13/5/2026) local time. Clenching his fist, Trump descended the aircraft stairs.

This was his first visit to China since 2017 and the first US presidential visit to the Land of the Bamboo Curtain in nearly a decade. Accompanying Trump on the visit were Tesla boss Elon Musk and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.

The presence of the two is seen as a strong symbol of potential business deals between the two countries with the world’s largest economies. Trump was welcomed with a bouquet of flowers and walked on a red carpet lined with around 300 Chinese youths in white uniforms.
