Washington DC - United States President Donald Trump has said that member countries of the Peace Council will commit more than US$5 billion, equivalent to Rp 84.1 trillion, for the reconstruction of Gaza, which was devastated by a series of Israeli attacks.

Trump said the funding commitment for Gaza would be discussed at the Peace Council's inaugural meeting in Washington DC on Thursday (19 February). The deployment of thousands of personnel for the International Stabilisation Force (ISF) to Gaza will also be discussed at the meeting, which will be attended by heads of state.

"On 19 February 2026, I will once again meet with the members of the Peace Council at the Donald J Trump Peace Institute in Washington DC, where we will announce that member nations have pledged more than US$5 billion for humanitarian efforts and the reconstruction of Gaza," Trump wrote in a statement via the Truth Social platform, as reported by Anadolu Agency on Monday (16/2/2026).

Trump also stated that Peace Council member nations had "committed thousands of personnel for the International Stabilisation Force and local policing to maintain security and peace for the people of Gaza".

Furthermore, Trump urged Hamas to disarm under the Gaza peace plan that forms the basis of the ceasefire. "Most importantly, Hamas must uphold its commitment to full and immediate demilitarisation," he said.

Hamas disarmament is a key component of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire, which was mediated by the US and agreed upon by Hamas and Israel in October last year. The United Nations has backed Trump's proposed peace plan since November last year.

In addition to Hamas disarming, Israel is also required to gradually withdraw its forces from the Gaza Strip, with international stabilisation forces deployed to ensure security in the Palestinian enclave.

Trump, in his statement on Sunday (15/2), also claimed that the Peace Council "has limitless potential", referring to last month's meeting when "two dozen distinguished founding members" joined him in Davos, Switzerland, to celebrate the council's formation. "Offering a bold vision for the civilians of Gaza, and then, ultimately, far beyond Gaza — WORLD PEACE," he said.

"The Peace Council will prove to be the most influential international body in history, and it is my honour to serve as its chairman," Trump said in his statement.

Trump's statement came after media reports discussed plans by Indonesia, a Peace Council member, to deploy up to 8,000 troops as part of the International Stabilisation Force to Gaza.

Meanwhile, the White House last month announced the establishment of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, comprising technocrats, to oversee the transition of power as part of the peace plan for Gaza.
