Trump Says Iran Nuclear Issue More Important Than Threat of Global Depression
Washington - President Donald Trump said on Monday that preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons is more important than the threat of a global economic depression. “Nuclear weapons are more important than a depression. A depression is very bad. Nuclear weapons will cause a depression much faster,” Trump told reporters when asked about the potential global economic consequences of further military conflict with Iran. He added that if Iran does not comply with the terms of a recently signed memorandum, the US will do what it must. Last week, Iran and the US signed an online memorandum aimed at ending the military conflict that began on 28 February. The document also sets a deadline for the US to lift its naval blockade of Iranian ports and for Iran to restore shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Talks between Iran and the US, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, were held at the Burgenstock resort in Switzerland on 21 June.
