Trump Says Iran Is Divided into Two Camps: They Don't Know Who Their Leader Is

The United States is still awaiting a response from the Iranian government regarding a peace proposal to end the war. President Donald Trump stated that Iran is currently divided into two groups. “Iran is having a very hard time deciding who their leader is! They don’t know! The internal squabble between the ‘Hardline Group,’ which has lost badly on the battlefield, and the ‘Moderate Group,’ which is not moderate at all (but is getting respect!), is crazy!” Trump wrote on Truth Social, as reported by CNN on Thursday (23/4/2026). White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Wednesday (22/4) that the US government knows which group in Iran will approve the agreement to end the war. When asked about the US government’s understanding of the main decision-makers, Leavitt replied that the White House and the intelligence community “certainly have a good understanding.” CNN reported that the US suspects a split between Iran’s negotiation team, led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Today, Trump also claimed that the US has “full control over the Strait of Hormuz.” “No ship can enter or exit without the approval of the United States Navy. The Strait is ‘tightly closed’ until Iran is able to reach a DEAL!!!” he wrote in a post on Truth Social.
