Trump says Iran 'getting more serious' in talks

US President Donald Trump said on Friday that Washington and Tehran are engaged in talks and he believes Iran is starting to “get more serious”. “I think they’re getting more serious as time goes by, probably for obvious reasons, but we are talking to them right now,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “I think they’ve shown the most seriousness that we’ve seen so far. But that doesn’t mean we have a deal,” he added. Trump offered few details on whether he would order a major escalation in US strikes against Iran, as it remains unclear whether behind-the-scenes negotiations can revive diplomatic efforts. The comments came hours after Trump met with his top officials and advisers at the White House to discuss options regarding the conflict with Iran, according to a CNN report citing a source familiar with the matter. As of Thursday, US forces had carried out strikes against Iranian military targets for thirteen consecutive nights.
