Trump Says Iran Becoming 'More Serious' in Talks with US

President Donald Trump has said he has not yet decided whether to launch a major attack on Iran, adding that Tehran now appears to be ‘more serious’ in talks with Washington. ‘No, I haven’t decided,’ Trump told reporters in the Oval Office at the White House on Friday (24/7) local time when asked if he had made a decision to launch a large-scale strike on Iran. The statement followed reports that he had met with his advisers to discuss a large-scale operation against Iran. ‘So we’re talking to them now. I think they’re getting more serious as time goes by, maybe for obvious reasons,’ Trump added, as reported by AFP on Saturday (25/7/2026). Trump had previously been reported to be preparing for a new large-scale attack on Iran, with the scale of the US military operation said to be larger than Operation Epic Fury. In an interview with US media outlet Axios on Thursday (23/7), Trump said he was close to making a decision regarding the possible large-scale US strike but stressed that no final decision had been made. Two unnamed US officials separately told Axios that no new military orders had been given so far. ‘I’m considering a massive attack. Bigger than before. I’m close to a decision. We’re fully prepared for it,’ Trump said in the Axios interview. Trump also said that Israel could join the latest US operation ‘almost instantly’ if requested. However, Trump stressed that the US does not need assistance from any other country to carry out the latest military operation against Iran.
