Trump Says He Would Like to Meet with Mojtaba Khamenei

WASHINGTON – Former US President Donald Trump has said that he would like to meet with the Supreme Leader of Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei. This was conveyed while the two countries were accusing each other of violating the ceasefire agreement.

“I would like to meet with him, and we may meet sometime, depending on how things go,” Trump said in an interview with the New York Post’s “Pod Force One” podcast on Wednesday (June 3, 2026).

Trump also admitted that he had heard reports that Mojtaba Khamenei was not in good health. The US believes that Mojtaba was also injured when Washington launched an attack on Iran that also killed Ali Khamenei, Mojtaba’s father, on February 28, 2026.

“I haven’t heard that he’s doing well. If you believe those stories, he lost a lot of body parts,” Trump said.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told a congressional panel on Tuesday (June 2, 2026) that Mojtaba Khamenei was still alive and becoming more active. “I think there is evidence out there that he is becoming more involved at some level,” Rubio told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

On Wednesday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned what it called a US attack on an Iranian tanker in the Strait of Hormuz and a telecommunications tower on Qeshm Island. Iran accused the US of violating the ceasefire, including international law.

Iran affirmed that it has the right to defend itself and will use all available means to respond, including by targeting sources of attack in the future. In addition, Iran stated that it has the right to defend itself against any country that allows the US to use its territory or airspace to launch attacks.

Last Wednesday, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps launched an attack on an airport in Kuwait. They said the attack was in retaliation for the US attack on an oil tanker and an Iranian island.

The current developments are seen as a serious test for the US-Iran ceasefire agreement, which was agreed on April 8, 2026.
