Trump Reveals China Intends to Continue Buying Iranian Oil Amid Global Tensions
US President Donald Trump has revealed that China intends to continue purchasing oil from Iran. This statement was made during Trump’s state visit to Beijing, which took place from May 13-15, 2026.
“At the same time, he (Chinese President Xi Jinping) said that they are buying a lot of oil from there (Iran), and they want to continue doing so,” Trump said in an interview with Fox News on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
In addition to the issue of oil supply, Trump added that President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open. This waterway is a vital artery for the shipment of oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Persian Gulf countries to global markets.
Interestingly, the White House also stated that during the meeting, the Chinese leader expressed Beijing’s interest in starting to buy oil from the United States as part of their energy diversification.
This statement comes amid a very volatile geopolitical situation.
