Trump Reportedly Considered Nuclear Option for Iran
US President Donald Trump reportedly recently discussed with his subordinates speculation regarding the possible use of nuclear weapons against Iran to hasten an end to the conflict, Pulitzer Prize-winning American journalist Seymour Hersh said on Wednesday (10/6). The report, citing several sources, suggested that such discussions are still ongoing between several senior members of the administration and the ‘frustrated president,’ Hersh said in a post on the Substack media platform. Earlier on 28 February, the United States and Israel launched attacks on targets in Iran, including in Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties. Iran responded by attacking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East. Then on 7 April, Washington and Tehran announced a ceasefire. However, subsequent talks held in Islamabad ended without a breakthrough. It is currently claimed that a negotiation process is underway between Iran and the United States, with recent efforts focused on finalising a memorandum of understanding framework. At the same time, both parties frequently launch isolated attacks against each other.
