Trump Reported to be Considering Nuclear Strike on Iran
The United States is reportedly considering the use of nuclear weapons against Iran after failing to overthrow the country’s leadership through conventional means. This option for a mass destruction attack has emerged as Washington is perceived to be struggling against Tehran’s defences on the battlefield.
Quoting Russia Today (RT) on Monday (31/8/2026), this dire warning was revealed by Joe Kent, a former anti-terrorism adviser to the US President, during an appearance on Tucker Carlson’s podcast. Last April, US President Donald Trump threatened that the entirety of Iranian civilisation would perish unless they succumbed to Washington’s demands, including threats to eliminate civilian infrastructure such as power plants and bridges.
“We would be foolish to think that this cannot happen here, in the current scenario, especially as the (Trump) administration seeks a way out,” he stated bluntly, describing the nuclear option as a very realistic possibility for the US military at present.
Kent noted that Trump has failed to achieve any of his objectives in the conflict with Iran, despite deploying the full extent of US military and economic capabilities. According to him, if Washington insists on removing Iran’s leadership from power to force total surrender, only two options remain: a full-scale ground operation or a nuclear strike.
“If you play this scenario out long enough, you will arrive at weapons of mass destruction quite quickly,” he explained, adding that a ground operation is deemed entirely unfeasible given the vast territory and population of Iran.
Furthermore, he speculated that Washington could hypothetically opt for a limited nuclear strike specifically targeting underground uranium enrichment facilities hidden in Iran’s mountainous regions. This warning follows the sudden suspension of the latest wave of US attacks against Iran late last month, amid heavy media reports that the Pentagon has run out of supplies of high-precision ammunition and interceptor missiles. Trump and several senior US officials have vehemently denied these claims.
However, in a tactical shift, Trump suddenly announced the commencement of a devastating economic operation against Iran last week, which he dubbed “Economic D-Day”. A few days later, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent launched a series of new sanctions against Tehran targeting almost 60 entities, individuals, and vessels across various jurisdictions, including 21 based in China.
Bessent explained that this aggressive move aims to turn Iran into an economic pariah by punishing nations that refuse to sever ties. “Every entity that facilitates money laundering on behalf of Iran will be expelled from the US dollar system,” he asserted.
