Trump: Reopening of Strait of Hormuz Becomes Top Priority in Negotiations with Iran
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, WASHINGTON – United States President Donald Trump stated on Monday (6/4/2026) that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz has become Washington’s top priority amid negotiations with Iran. “I will say it is a very big priority,” Trump said when asked if the reopening of that strategic shipping lane was on the list of concessions Washington expects from Tehran as part of a deal. Previously, on Saturday (4/4/2026), Trump stated that Iran had 48 hours to reach a nuclear agreement or reopen the Strait of Hormuz. “Remember when I gave Iran ten days to make a deal or open the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump said on his social media platform, Truth Social. “Time is almost up, 48 hours before hell rains down on them,” he said. On 26 March, Trump said he extended the nuclear negotiation deadline to 10 days after Iran allowed 10 Pakistani-flagged oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
