Trump Rejects Efforts to Establish Global Structure to Control AI
US President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday (22/9) his opposition to any efforts to create a global structure to control artificial intelligence (AI).
“The United States also completely rejects any attempts to draft globalist schemes to control… artificial intelligence, which is currently being widely discussed,” Trump said before the UN General Assembly.
Furthermore, Trump stated that Washington will begin changing the term artificial intelligence to “super intelligence,” arguing that the previous term made the technology sound fake.
“The word ‘artificial’ makes intelligence look fake… when it is not. This technology is actually extraordinary,” said Trump.
“From now on, all US documents, and it is expected that global documents will also change, will be updated to use the term ‘super’, which is far more accurate, instead of ‘artificial’.”
In recent weeks, public debate regarding the risks of AI has emerged. Two employees from the AI development company, Anthropic, argued that there is a 10 per cent possibility that AI could wipe out humanity within the next decade.
On 14 September, Trump dismissed claims that artificial intelligence would take over the world and annihilate humanity, calling them fake news. Trump openly supports continued development in this field, while asserting that the US must not allow China to take the lead.
