Trump Receives Calls from Putin and Zelensky on 80th Birthday, Discusses Iran and Ukraine Wars
United States President Donald Trump conducted a series of phone calls on his 80th birthday. On the special day, Trump engaged in telephone conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The calls from the leaders of the two warring nations did not occur simultaneously, though they took place on the same day, Sunday (14/6). Separately, Putin and Zelensky telephoned Trump to wish him a happy birthday and to discuss global dynamics.
Vladimir Putin’s Foreign Policy Adviser, Yuri Ushakov, stated that several topics were discussed when Putin called Trump. One of them concerned the developments in the war between the US and Iran.
“The conversation focused on the situation surrounding the memorandum of understanding being drafted between the United States and Iran. Donald Trump said a deal is close,” Ushakov said, as reported by AFP and CNN on Monday (15/6/2026).
Ushakov added that the conversation between Trump and Putin also agreed on a visit by US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Russia in the near future.
Trump also held a phone call with Zelensky. Besides conveying birthday wishes, Zelensky said he discussed a number of crucial topics regarding the war in Ukraine with Trump.
“We had a fairly detailed discussion about many important things – peace, of course, including that,” Zelensky said.
He stated that his discussion with Trump would be further addressed during a meeting at the G7 Summit taking place in France this week.
“We agreed that we will discuss it further during our meeting at the G7 Summit,” Zelensky remarked.
