Trump Rages as US Ship Attacked by Iran in Strait of Hormuz
Tensions between the United States (US) and Iran have reignited in the Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump claims that one of his country’s warships was attacked by Iranian drones and missiles, followed by a retaliation that destroyed Tehran’s naval fleet.
According to detikNews on Friday (8/5/2026), Trump stated that Iran first attacked three US military ships passing through Hormuz waters. According to Trump, the attack was immediately countered by US forces.
“Three World-Class American Destroyers just successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz under fire. No damage to any of the three destroyers, but major damage to the Iranian attackers,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
“They were totally destroyed along with many small boats used to replace their fully destroyed Navy,” Trump added.
Trump described the US ships as targets of Iranian drone and missile attacks. However, he claimed that all such attacks were successfully thwarted.
“Missiles were fired at our destroyers, and easily shot down. Likewise, drones came, and burned up in the air,” Trump explained.
Trump also urged Iran to immediately sign a peace agreement with the US. He threatened to launch even more brutal attacks if a peace deal is not reached.
“We will destroy them harder and more brutally in the future if they do not immediately sign their deal,” Trump said.
Iran Accuses US of Violating Ceasefire
Previously, Iran’s military central command accused the US of breaching the ceasefire agreement. Iran claimed that its tanker ship in the Strait of Hormuz was targeted by US forces.
According to AFP, Iran stated that the US targeted an Iranian oil tanker moving from Iran’s coastal waters in the Jask region towards the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, another ship entering the Strait of Hormuz opposite Fujairah Port in the United Arab Emirates was also reportedly attacked.
In a statement quoted by state television, Iran claimed that the US also carried out attacks in several other southern regions. Iran accused the US of collaborating with several countries in the region.
Iran’s military central command also stated that Iranian forces had attacked US military ships in retaliation.
Explosions from Bandar Abbas to Tehran
According to the BBC, Iran’s Fars news agency reported several explosions heard near Bandar Abbas City, Iran. Fars stated that the origin and exact location of the explosions remain unknown.
Fars added that initial investigations indicate “gunfire” between Iranian armed forces and the “enemy”. The commercial section of the Qeshm dock, the largest island in the Gulf, was reportedly a “target”.
Meanwhile, Tasnim news agency reported several explosions also heard near Qeshm Island and Bandar Abbas.
Tasnim stated that there is no definitive information regarding the explosions. However, some sources say the explosion sounds are related to IRGC Navy operations warning several ships about illegal routes in the Strait of Hormuz.
Local media also reported explosions heard in Tehran. To date, the US has not provided an official comment on the situation.
