Trump Rages Again as NATO Refuses to Help Secure the Strait of Hormuz: Cowards!
US President Donald Trump has strongly condemned the minimal support provided by NATO countries to the United States in the war against Iran, particularly in securing the Strait of Hormuz route. Trump referred to his NATO allies as cowards.
“Without the US, NATO is just a paper tiger,” Trump said in his post on Truth Social, as reported by Channel News Asia (CNA) on Friday (20/3/2026).
The Strait of Hormuz has been blockaded by Iran since the country was attacked by the US and Israel on 28 February. The closure of this global oil trade route has led to shortages and rising oil prices.
Trump then requested his NATO allies to step in to secure the Strait of Hormuz from Iran. However, Trump’s request was ignored by NATO members.
“Now that the battle has been won militarily, with very little danger to them, they complain about the high oil prices they have to pay, but they don’t want to help open the Strait of Hormuz, a simple military manoeuvre that is the only reason for the high oil prices. It’s very easy for them to do, with very little risk,” Trump wrote.
“The cowards, and we will remember it,” he added.
NATO Countries Not Yet Willing to Get Involved in the Strait of Hormuz Conflict
As reported by AFP on Friday (20/3/2026), the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the Netherlands stated on Thursday (19/3) that they are ready to “contribute to appropriate efforts to ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz”.
The group said they “welcome the commitments of countries involved in planning preparations”, and they strongly condemned “the recent attacks by Iran on unarmed commercial ships in the Gulf”.
However, Italy, Germany, and France later clarified on Thursday (19/3) that they were not talking about direct military assistance, but rather potential multilateral initiatives after a ceasefire.
