Trump Predicts Iran Will Agree to Deal Within 60 Days
US President Donald Trump on Friday predicted Iran would agree to a final deal within 60 days after the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU). If no agreement is reached within 60 days, starting from Thursday, “we will do things that will not make them happy,” Trump said at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. “But I don’t think it will come to that.” The text of the MoU states that both parties are committed to negotiating and reaching a final agreement within a maximum of 60 days, which can be extended by mutual consent. The US-Iran talks scheduled in Switzerland on Friday were postponed, with no official explanation from either side. Several media reports said Iran withdrew from the talks in response to the latest Israeli strikes in Lebanon. Earlier on Friday, Trump told NBC News that he had spoken with Israeli leaders and urged them to agree to a ceasefire with Hezbollah. “It’s a positive thing,” Trump said in the telephone interview. “It’s a small addition that improves the situation.” Meanwhile, the US State Department said a new round of talks between Israel and Lebanon would be held in Washington DC next week.
