Washington DC — United States President Donald Trump expressed his appreciation to Indonesia for its tangible contribution to maintaining the ceasefire and promoting peace in Gaza, Palestine.

Trump made the remarks during the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace on Thursday, 19 February 2026 local time.

The meeting also discussed the role of nations around the world in bringing about peace in the region.

Trump emphasised that the involvement of countries in the forum extended beyond mere financial support. A number of nations, including Indonesia, were said to have committed to contributing further by preparing personnel to help maintain stability and ensure lasting peace in the conflict zone.

"The countries present here today are not only providing financial contributions. Several have also committed to sending personnel to help maintain the ceasefire and secure a truly sustainable peace," Trump said.

He stated that peace efforts in Gaza must not be temporary or symbolic. He stressed the importance of long-term commitment to prevent the conflict from reigniting in short order.

"We need peace that lasts. Peace that we know will fall apart again in two weeks is meaningless," he said.

Trump then conveyed his appreciation to Indonesia. He described Indonesia as a great nation with a strategic role in international peace efforts, including on the Gaza issue.

"In particular, Indonesia, thank you very much. This is a tremendous country," Trump said.

Trump also highlighted the leadership of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, whom he regarded as possessing the decisiveness and intelligence required in a global crisis.

He assessed that strong leadership was a critical factor in maintaining stability and ensuring sustainable peace.

"He [Prabowo] is a tough man. And we say that with great respect. We need strength. He is tough and he is smart. And the intelligence is even more important," he remarked.

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto had affirmed Indonesia's commitment to supporting world peace, including in Gaza, Palestine. This was conveyed directly by Prabowo before US President Donald Trump and other delegations at the Inaugural Meeting of the Board of Peace in Washington DC, United States, on Thursday, 19 February 2026 local time.
