Trump Plans US Return to Attacks on Iran

Washington (ANTARA) - US President Donald Trump stated on Monday (3/8) that the US military does not rule out the possibility of attacking Iran again if required.

“Their leaders are mostly dead. Their Navy is gone. Their Air Force is gone. Their surveillance equipment is almost entirely destroyed. That does not mean we will not hit them. We shall see what happens,” Trump told the media.

Previously on Monday (3/8), Axios reported that Trump is considering limited strikes against Iran to prevent the nation from restoring its military capabilities.

The plan is also aimed at reducing the risk of Iranian attacks on oil tankers as well as US Navy and Air Force assets in the region.

On Sunday, several explosions were reported on Larak Island, Iran, located in the Strait of Hormuz. Axios reported that the US has launched attacks allegedly targeting Iranian missile launchers on the island.

Iranian media subsequently reported that Tehran fired missiles at US ships in the Strait of Hormuz and US bases in the region.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that it attacked Iran to prevent the country’s forces from planting mines in the Strait of Hormuz.

On 28 February 2026, the US and Israel began attacking several targets in Iran. Tehran subsequently retaliated by launching attacks against US targets.

In mid-June 2026, Iran and the US signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at halting hostilities. However, both parties resumed attacks shortly thereafter.

The conflict remains unresolved despite there being no active hostilities at present. Washington has chosen to increase economic pressure on Iran with the aim of creating additional financial strain on Tehran.
