Trump Personally Calls Nvidia's US$190.6 Billion CEO, Invites Him to Join China Trip
US President Donald Trump brought a group of technology and aviation industry giants to join his entourage to Beijing for bilateral meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Early reports from Reuters named those in the delegation, including Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, Apple CEO Tim Cook, GE Aerospace CEO Larry Culp, and Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg. It was reported that Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang was not included in Trump’s delegation list, which immediately drew attention from various parties. This is because Nvidia is a chip giant heavily affected by trade tensions between the US and China. Following the uproar, Trump reportedly called Huang directly and personally asked the billionaire with assets of US$190.6 billion (Rp 3,329 trillion) to join the US delegation to China, according to sources to CNBC International, quoted on Wednesday (13/5/2026). The source said Huang flew directly to Alaska to depart with Air Force One. Trump brought dozens of top executives from prominent US companies to Beijing to hold meetings with Xi Jinping on 13-15 May 2026. “Jensen [Huang] is attending the meeting at the invitation of President Trump for US and government purposes,” said an Nvidia spokesperson in their statement. The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment. In a social media post, Trump confirmed that Huang was on the Air Force One plane and denied that the Nvidia boss was not invited, as reported by media including CNBC International. He added that opening China to US business would be his “first request” to Xi. “I will ask President Xi, a leader with an extraordinary reputation, to ‘open’ China so these brilliant people can show their greatness, and help bring the People’s Republic of China to an even higher level!” Trump said, referring to the broader US business delegation.
