Trump outlines options to destroy Iran's enriched uranium
WASHINGTON (ANTARA) – US President Donald Trump said on Monday that Iran’s enriched uranium would be destroyed once handed over to the United States, either at the same location or at another ‘acceptable site’.
‘Enriched Uranium (Nuclear Dust!) will be handed over to the US to be taken home and destroyed or, better still, destroyed on-site or at another acceptable location in cooperation and coordination with the Islamic Republic of Iran, with the Atomic Energy Commission or equivalent body witnessing the process and event,’ Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Trump did not specify the amount of enriched uranium he referred to. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has previously monitored Iran’s nuclear activities through various inspection arrangements.
Earlier on Monday, semi-official Iranian news agency Tasnim reported that Tehran does not agree to transfer its enriched uranium abroad, while denying a report by Saudi-based Al Hadath news channel claiming that ‘Iran is ready to move high-enriched uranium from its territory.’
Tasnim stated that reports about the details of a potential memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Tehran and Washington were false.
‘The current MoU text contains no statement indicating Iran’s readiness to transfer nuclear material, and Iran has not made any commitments regarding nuclear actions in the memorandum,’ Tasnim said.
The Washington Post, citing an Iranian official, reported on Monday that in the first stage of a possible agreement, Washington would unfreeze $12 billion in Iranian assets (1 US dollar = Rp17,743), mine-clearing operations in the Strait of Hormuz would begin, and US sanctions would be lifted.
However, the agreement does not include a nuclear deal, according to the Iranian official cited.
