A White House official stated that US President Donald Trump will only pursue a peace deal with Iran if all conditions are met, insisting Iran must not possess nuclear weapons.

According to AFP on Saturday, 30 May 2025, the official revealed Trump’s terms following a meeting with aides to discuss potential agreements. “The Situation Room meeting has concluded after two hours. President Trump will only make a good deal for America that meets his red lines,” said the anonymous White House official. “Iran must not have nuclear weapons,” they added.

Trump previously said he was finalising a decision on war with Iran, stating: “I will meet now in the Situation Room to make the final decision,” in a lengthy social media post on Friday, 29 May 2026, per AFP.

He emphasised Iran must agree never to possess nuclear weapons and open the Strait of Hormuz shipping lanes. Trump also stressed that Iran’s enriched uranium stockpiles would be “excavated by the United States in coordination and close cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran, the International Atomic Energy Agency, and destroyed.”

Following reports that Iran demanded financial compensation for the war and the White House proposed investment ideas, Trump said “no money will be exchanged until further notice.” He added that only “insignificant matters” had been agreed upon.

Iran: No Nuclear Talks with US

Iran responded after Trump’s meeting on finalising a decision regarding war with the US. The Foreign Ministry stated no nuclear programme negotiations were taking place, focusing instead on ending the conflict. “At this stage, we are focused on ending the war, and there are no nuclear-related negotiations,” said ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei to state TV.

Baqaei added that there was “no final agreement” with the US to end Middle East conflicts. “Regarding understanding, as I mentioned when speaking with you, message exchanges continue, but no final agreement has been reached,” he said.
