Washington (ANTARA) - US President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday 27 May that he would not agree if Russia or China were to hold Iran’s highly enriched uranium.

‘No, I would not be comfortable. That would not make me comfortable,’ Trump told reporters when asked about the possibility.

On 11 May, Trump said Iranian negotiators believed only the US and China could move the country’s nuclear material.

Meanwhile, on 18 April, Russian state nuclear firm Rosatom stated it was ready to assist in moving Iran’s enriched uranium, with the issue remaining a key and sensitive point in talks between Washington and Tehran.

On Tuesday, Russian UN Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia said Russia would be prepared to store Iran’s enriched nuclear material if Tehran requested it as part of a deal with the US.

On 28 February, the US and Israel launched a joint attack on Iranian territory, resulting in more than 3,000 casualties.

On 7 April, Washington and Tehran announced a ceasefire. Further talks held in Islamabad ended without breakthrough.

Despite no reports of renewed hostilities, Washington has imposed a blockade on Iranian ports and waters.
