Washington — US President Donald Trump stated he is not yet prepared to formally declare an end to military operations against Iran, according to reports on Monday.

“I have not yet declared this operation as ended,” Trump told reporters when asked whether he believed a declaration of the destruction of Iran’s military capabilities should be followed by a formal announcement.

Trump also claimed that Washington and Tehran are engaged in diplomatic dialogue amid the ongoing conflict between the two nations.

“We are talking with them, but I believe they are not yet ready. However, they are quite close [to reaching an agreement with the US],” Trump said, responding to reporters’ questions on the matter.

On 28 February, the US and Israel began launching strikes against targets in Iran, including Tehran, causing damage, civilian casualties, and killing Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iran retaliated by attacking Israeli territory and US military targets throughout the Middle East region.

The US and Israel characterised the military operations as preliminary strikes and described alleged threats from Tehran regarding its nuclear programme. However, they are no longer concealing their desire to see a change of power in Iran.
