Washington (ANTARA) - United States President Donald Trump said on Saturday (20/6) that no levies would be imposed in the Strait of Hormuz during a 60-day temporary ceasefire with Iran or after that period ends. In a social media post, Trump stated that the US could impose tariffs if a final agreement is not reached. “There will be no Tariffs in the Strait of Hormuz during the 60-day Ceasefire Period, and there will be no tariffs after that 60-day period ends, unless such levies are imposed by and for the United States, should a deal not be finalised, for services rendered as a guardian angel for countries in the Middle East for the purpose of reimbursement of past, present, and future costs,” Trump wrote. On the same day, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, Iran’s main military command, announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, citing US violations of a newly signed peace memorandum of understanding and Israeli violations of the ceasefire in southern Lebanon, as reported by the semi-official Mehr news agency.
