Trump: Netanyahu and Hezbollah Agree to Cease Attacks as Iran Talks Continue
US President Donald Trump stated that Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to halt the fighting. Trump also said negotiations with Iran are continuing after a stalemate regarding Israel’s attacks in Lebanon. Reported by AFP and Anadolu Agency on Tuesday, 2 June 2026, Trump said on social media that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had promised not to send troops to southern Beirut as previously threatened, while Hezbollah agreed to ‘cease all firing.’ His comments came after Iranian news agency Tasnim reported that Tehran had suspended talks with mediators in protest against Israel’s expanded attacks in Lebanon targeting its ally, Hezbollah. ‘I had a very productive call with Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, and no troops will be sent to Beirut, with any troops en route being recalled,’ Trump wrote. ‘Similarly, through high-level representatives, I had a very good call with Hezbollah, and they agreed that all firing will cease—Israel will not attack them, and they will not attack Israel.’ In a separate post minutes later, Trump said, ‘Talks are continuing rapidly with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Thank you for your attention to this matter!’ However, on Monday, 1 June, the US leader had given mixed signals about his enthusiasm for talks to end the Iran war, which was launched by the US and Israel on 28 February. Trump told US television station CNBC in a phone interview shortly before his Truth Social post that ‘I don’t care’ if the Iran talks fail. ‘If it’s over, then it’s over,’ Trump told CNBC. ‘Frankly, I think the talks have become very boring.’ Separately, Trump told NBC News on Monday, 1 June, that he had not been informed that Iran had suspended negotiations, but added, ‘I think we’ve talked too much if you want to know the truth.’ ‘I think silence would be good, and it could last a long time,’ he told NBC.
