Trump Names Cuba as Next Target After Venezuela and Iran
US President Donald Trump has issued a provocative statement implying that Cuba will be the next target of tough US policy. This was stated by Trump following a series of military actions by Washington against Venezuela and Iran.
“By the way, Cuba will be next, but pretend I didn’t say that. Pretend I didn’t say that. Please, please, please media, ignore that statement. Thank you very much. Cuba will be next,” Trump said at the Future Investment Initiative conference in Miami, Florida, on Friday (27/3).
The statement has sparked widespread speculation, given the US military’s aggressive track record at the start of 2026. It is known that the US military invaded Venezuela and forcibly captured President Nicolas Maduro on 3 January. Not long after, on 28 February, the US, together with Israel, launched a massive joint attack on Iran, which is still ongoing.
Cuba is currently in a very fragile condition. The cigar nation is facing a severe economic and energy crisis due to unilateral US sanctions that have lasted for decades.
The United Nations (UN) has even warned that extreme fuel shortages in Cuba are beginning to plunge the country into a deep humanitarian crisis.
Previously, in early March, Trump had threatened that the Cuban government would “soon collapse”. However, he also stated that his administration’s main focus “at this time” was still on resolving the conflict in Iran. Trump’s latest statement in Miami reinforces that Cuba’s position is now entering the radar of priorities for his foreign policy next.
