Trump Mocks Communism During US Independence Day Speech

President Donald Trump mocked communism in a speech marking US Independence Day, whilst also boasting about American military strength. Trump delivered the address at the ‘Salute to America 250’ celebration on the National Mall in Washington, DC, on Saturday (4/7/2026) local time. In his speech, Trump insisted the US would never become a communist country. ‘America will never be a communist country. It will not happen. Communism is a loser and always will be,’ Trump said. He stated that the communist system is the opposite of America and claimed it has never succeeded. ‘The communist system is the opposite of the American system, and the communist system has never worked,’ he said. Trump said American fighters had battled communism to prevent the threat from emerging in the US. ‘Our warriors did not fight communism on battlefields all over the world just to let that threat re-emerge right here in America,’ he said. Trump then compared communism to cancer, stating it must be cut out. ‘It’s like cancer. You have to cut it out. You have to cut it out fast,’ he said. Trump also boasted about the US military, claiming the country had destroyed Venezuela and Iran with its military power. ‘Look at Venezuela, look at Iran. We have destroyed them, destroyed their militaries,’ Trump said. He said the country had tamed the wilderness and built the Panama Canal. ‘Americans crossed the Great Plains, climbed the peaks of the Rocky Mountains. We just tamed the wilderness and conquered the frontier and built an empire,’ he said. ‘We built the railroads, erected skyscrapers, those beautiful skyscrapers, and dug the Panama Canal, considered the eighth wonder of the world,’ he continued. Trump said the US also created the world’s most powerful industry, making its military stronger than ever. ‘This is the unstoppable spirit that created the most powerful industry in the world and built the strongest military ever known. And today, our military is stronger and mightier than ever before,’ he said.
