Trump Mocked After Praising Iraq's PM as Young and Handsome
US President Donald Trump became the subject of mockery from American television viewers after calling Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi ‘young and handsome’. Trump met with the Iraqi PM at the White House on Tuesday (14/7), where he offered several compliments in front of the waiting press. After thanking him for their meeting, Trump then said: ‘And he’s a young man. He’s young and handsome, that’s what I don’t like, I’m not happy about that,’ while jokingly patting his own leg. Fox News viewers who watched the clip of the conversation on social media platform X subsequently commented on Trump’s actions. ‘So, Trump’s new diplomatic strategy is ’compliment the guy and hope the meeting goes more smoothly’.’ This comes after Trump was accused of ‘becoming more unhinged by the day,’ wrote one X user. Another netizen wrote: ‘Why does he have to comment on everyone’s appearance?’ ‘So weird.’ Another comment read, ‘Trump’s jealousy is the sole driver in everything he does and has done in his miserable life.’ A fourth comment stated, ‘Add it to the list of weird and inappropriate comments about men’s appearances.’ Trump met with al-Zaidi in the Oval Office at the White House amid renewed tensions with Iran. It was reported that al-Zaidi would sign an agreement with Trump focusing on energy and trade, which would boost investment in US companies. Iraqi government spokesman Haider al-Aboudi told reporters that the White House visit would mark a shift in the two countries’ relationship ‘from a crisis management framework to a strategic economic partnership.’ According to al-Aboudi, the focus of the meeting was not to reach a ‘temporary’ deal, but to build a ‘durable, long-term partnership that serves the mutual interests of both countries.’
